Huskies Begin Four-Game Road Trip at Chicago State Thursday

HOUSTON – The HBU women’s basketball team will begin a four-game road trip at Chicago State on Thursday, set for a 5 pm start at the Jones Convocation Center.

Chicago State defeated HBU, 71-57, last month at Sharp Gym, the first-ever meeting between the two schools. In that game, Natalie Marlowe scored a game-high 18 points, while both Taniqua Hollis and Brittany Barton scored 10 for HBU.
HBU (3-16, 1-3 GWC) lost to visiting North Dakota, 75-53, Saturday to conclude a four-game homestand.

The Huskies trailed by one, 37-36, entering halftime, but shot just 21 percent in the second half en route to the loss.

Destini Texada scored a team-high 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, while also recording four rebounds and three steals. Raquel Jones scored 10 points and Brittany Maxey contributed six points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

HBU is led in scoring by Texada, who is averaging 10.1 points per game, followed by Hollis with 9.2. Texada also leads the team in rebounds, grabbing 5.9 boards per game, while Maxey is second with 5.6. Maxey has a team-high 29 steals, followed by Texada and Princess Jeanmard with 27 and 20, respectively.

Chicago State (8-14, 3-2 GWC) began its three-game homestand with a 72-59 win over Utah Valley on January 28.

Courtney Waldon recorded a double-double against the Wolverines, scoring a team-high 23 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. For her efforts, she was named Great West Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season. Other Cougars in double-figure points were Alyssa Waldon (14) and Natalie Marlowe (10). UVU’s Julie Smith scored a game-high 24 points.

CSU is led in scoring by C. Waldon with 13.5 points per game, followed by A. Waldon with 11.2. C. Waldon leads on the boards, averaging 5.6 rebounds a game, while her sister leads with 53 steals.

The Huskies will finish the weekend road trip at Utah Valley on Saturday at 5:30 pm CST.
