HOUSTON -- Cindee Wright set school records in two sprint events Saturday, winning the 200-meters and placing third in the 60, to lead Houston Baptist at the Houston All-Comers meet at Yeoman Fieldhouse. Wright zipped to a stellar 24.74 on the flat 200-meter oval at the University of Houston to win by more than a quarter-second, and she added a 7.59 to take bronze in the short dash. Earlier she set a school record of 7.54 in the prelims.

Maximo Mendoza won the 3000m by more than seven seconds in a lifetime-best 8:38.97 to top HBU's men's performers. Teammates Johnathan LeJeune (5th) and freshman Matt Perri (8th) followed Mendoza across the line.

"You never know quite what to expect at this meet," said head coach Theresa Fuqua. "The mass of people competing makes it a very long day, but our athletes stepped up and had some great efforts. We are trying to get ready for the Great West Conference championships in three weeks, and this meet certainly was a positive step."

Other top performances for the Huskies included a second-place finish in the mile by Daniel Martinez, the GWC men's athlete of the week last week, as he clocked 4:15.63 for a personal best. Freshman Morgan Pressley had a very productive day, placing fourth in the women's 400 with an HBU-best 58.22, and also added an eighth-place finish in the long jump at 5.54 meters/18-2.25.

Trey Rodriguez inproved his 2010 best to 15.08m/49-5.75 to take seventh in the shot put, and Brittane Gaines was sixth in the 60. In the women's 800, Raquel Tidwell overcame a rash of jostling to run a season-best 2:19.46 in seventh. Tidwell teamed up with Angela Rojas, Zelda Abadom and Whitney Gardner to finish third in the distance medley relay.

A select group of distance runners travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas, Friday for the prestigious Tyson Invitational.
